The Main Unit of the BATmode System

The BATmode is the main component of the BATmode bat monitoring system for wind turbines. With its Intel® i3 processor and Windows® 11 operating system, it offers enormous flexibility and allows for simple, intuitive operation. To enable the most cost-effective use for different scenarios, we offer the BATmode in three configurations – 3B, 3S and 3S+. A detailed comparison of the variants can be found in the table below.
For calibrated recording of bat calls and filtering of call sequences from background noise, the BATmode system uses the proven UltraSoundGate hardware and RECORDER software from Avisoft Bioacoustics. The UltraSoundGates can be used in a modular fashion for up to four measurement channels on a BATmode. The internal memory of 500 GB (3B/3S) or 1 TB (3S+) allows automatic real-time monitoring without memory changes over an entire season. To ensure maximum data security, the recorded data can be backed up to external storage media using the USB interfaces.
For live curtailment of wind turbines due to current bat activity, it is possible to analyse recorded calls using AI to exclude recorded noise interference and identify bat species. This information can be sent to a server for turbine control via MQTT signal.

To ensure reliable accessibility of the BATmode, a connection via Ethernet, LTE mobile communications (only 3S/3S+) and WIFI (only 3S+) is possible. This allows to send status messages, control the device remotely and download recorded data. If the bandwidth of the mobile connection is not sufficient for full access, status messages and important control commands can also be transmitted via SMS.
The BATmode is powered by the included power supply unit via 100-240V 50/60Hz AC. Alternatively, the BATmode can also be powered directly with 12-20V DC. If a power failure occurs during monitoring, the device automatically restarts when power is restored and bat monitoring continues automatically.
In order to record environmental parameters in addition to acoustic data, the S+ variant has interfaces for temperature and precipitation sensors. The temperature sensor is integrated into the antenna disc, which was specially developed for the S+ variant and contains both a mobile phone antenna and a WiFi directional antenna. A precipitation sensor can be purchased separately as an accessory to record precipitation values.
