The electret TM10 ultrasonic stick microphone was specially developed for the installation in the tower wall of large wind turbines for the qualitative detection of bat activity at the level of the lower rotor tips. By omitting a test signal speaker the microphone has a very small diameter of only 12mm and the required mounting hole of 14mm is as small as possible. The microphone is made of stainless steel and an aluminum front panel. Its length of 500mm allows mounting even in thick-walled towers of large wind turbines with thicknesses up to 460mm. To fix the microphone in the wall, use the optional TM10 - Mounting Kit. For adaptation to different wall thicknesses the tripod of the mounting kit slides along the microphone stick and can be fixed either with included adhesive pads or magnetic feet on the tower inner wall. Thus, it allows a defined and secure positioning of the stick tip without having to drill additional holes for microphone attachment. However, if mounting with screws is prefered, you can also use the tripod (Drilling Plan - TM10). To prevent the ingress of rainwater through the mounting hole it can be drilled slightly sloping into the tower wall. The integrated microphone heater avoids condensation and increases the reliability of the microphone even in adverse weather conditions. Like all other of our microphones, the TM10 is of course compatible with all BATmode systems and therefore also with the UltraSoundGate 116Hnbm and 416Hnbm from Avisoft Bioacoustics. P>
Notes:
In order to avoid time-consuming and costly drilling of the mounting hole when the turbine is already built-up, it is advisable to contact the wind turbine manufacturer before the wind turbine is delivered. Thus, a corresponding hole can already be considered in the manufacturing process.
To reduce electromagnetic interferences, we recommend to place the BATbox with the detection system as close as possible to the microphone hole and as far away as possible from interference sources such as power and control cables. For this the microphone is delivered with a 3m connection cable. In principle, it is also possible to install the BATbox on the tower base and to use an extended microphone cable. However, this may cause a significant reduction in recording quality.
